Our church choir from The Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Enniskerry was given a very kind donation, and after some consideration, decided that it would be best used by having a choral workshop for the whole choir.
We approached Cathy and she agreed to do the workshop for us. We were interested in the work she had done with Corus, and felt that it would suit our choir also. Many of the choir members had never participated in a workshop so there were some nerves to begin with. But Cathy‘s lovely nature put us at ease immediately.
She focussed on how the voice works, and the ‘mechanism’ of singing and breathing correctly. We learned some new breathing and relaxation techniques and she really encouraged us to improve our own voice and learn to sing correctly which would, in turn, benefit the choir.
We had some fun with warm-up and choral exercises and finished the afternoon trying to put all we had learned in to practice by singing some songs that were familiar to us all. Unfortunately, we can’t add Lily Marlene to our church choir repertoire but we thoroughly enjoyed singing it on the day!
The feedback from the choir was tremendous. They felt inspired and challenged by what they had learned and thoroughly enjoyed the workshop from start to finish. The workshop was well organised and very well presented.
Cathy’s own love of singing shone through and encouraged us. It has given the choir renewed energy as we begin another church choral season and we now start our rehearsal with our breathing exercises!
P.S. We are always looking for new members – MEN in particular!
